PlayStation Virtual Reality 2 is reality!

PlayStation have finally released specifications for the PSVR 2….. a round of applause please.

Why the applause? As you may see from the specification list above, the hardware in the PSVR 2 looks good, real good.

Sony have confirmed that there will be no need for external cameras in PSVR 2. Set up will be completed via a single cable plugged into the PS5. Gameplay will be presented to you via 4K OLED HDR display, refreshing at 90/120HZ. This will ensure crystal clear, yet smooth gameplay. Removing that jarring feeling one sometimes experiences when playing VR. Immersion has been the theme with PS5, and this follows through to PSVR 2. Eye tracking, 3D audio, headset feedback and the new PSVR 2 Sense controller will take us, the player, deeper than ever before.

To get the most out of this PSVR hardware, developers will need to start applying new creative development techniques. Development will need to not just make use of the new capabilities of the PSVR 2 hardware. It will need to find creative ways to apply this technology in games. Buy in from gaming studios is essential for this next gen of PSVR. Such is the case with the DualSense controller. The hardware is developed and available (adaptive triggers, haptic feedback) but it requires programmed software to make use of the hardware.

With all the hype around VR, and the concerted push by big tech to adapt VR, Sony is in a unique position to drive adaptation on console. This will usher in a new era for Sony studios. We have seen Guerilla and Firesprite jump on board with the announcement of Horizon Call of the Mountain.

Horizon call of the mountain is a PSVR2 exclusive that will delve deeper into the Horizon universe. KOODOO will keep you updated on any developments regarding Horizon call of the Mountain.

Us, the gaming fans, would also love to see collaboration between hardware manufacturers and software developers. Hit games across multiple platforms please.

What would you like to see on to PSVR 2?
