LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
Lego is back with the most ambitious, far reaching, and detailed game in the franchise’s history.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga features the complete Star Wars series of films, what this means is players have the freedom to experience all the galaxies, planets, rides, and characters from the full franchise. Start with the sequel trilogy or jump straight into the prequel trilogy. The choice really is yours. Alternatively, take the free play route and play any of the missions with any characters you have unlocked.
About those characters, expect a lot of them, 422 to be exact. Play as the Skywalker clan, Jedi’s, storm troopers, Darth Vader and even characters specially created for the franchise. Characters have been divided into 9 classes, each class featuring its own special abilities. All the characters will be upgradable, via the collection of Kyber bricks. Use these upgrades to unlock special bonuses across characters and vehicles. Do remember, some upgrades will be class specific, thus enabling the chosen ability across the entire class!
The camera and combat system has been reworked in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The top-down camera view from previous iterations of the Lego franchise has been tweaked. Now when entering combat, the camera drops into a third person perspective. But wait, that’s not all! The controls also change when entering combat, allowing for targeting of individual characters. Shoot a storm trooper in the foot, I promise it will make you smile. The effects of this reworked combat and camera system are refreshed and modernised controls that are still easy to access for all players yet bring combat into the galactic age.
Now you button bashers out there, yes you melee edge lords, times are changing. Get into lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat and you will need to vary your attacks, or find your attacks being blocked by your foe thanks to reworked ai. Sweet!
The Kyber bricks briefly mentioned earlier replace the gold bricks in previous Lego versions. These bricks are just one aspect of a much larger push by the development team to encourage players to explore the vast Star Wars universe. There will be 45 main story line missions, 141 side missions, collectibles, unique puzzle pieces, trials, challenges and loads of easter eggs. Some of these easter eggs will bring back fond memories for players of the original Lego Games franchise.
The universe created by the team at TT games is incredible. Entire Capital ships built out of actual Lego pieces, vast worlds with minute detail and of course the unique Lego take on dialogue. The game is laugh out loud funny at times; with humour the whole family will enjoy. The detail in game is brought to life in 4K for those with next gen machines, no confirmation on frame rates at the time of writing.
Lego has confirmed that there will be a stream of DLC for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The first of this DLC will launch towards the end of April with a second drop in May(no prizes for guessing this date).
