Ghost of Yōtei Launches 2 October: Everything You Need to Know About Sucker Punch’s Next Epic

From the creators of Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch returns with a new standalone adventure set 300 years after Jin Sakai’s journey. This time, we follow Atsu, a lone warrior seeking revenge on the six outlaws who destroyed her family and left her for dead.

Revealed as the surprise finale of the 2024 State of Play, Ghost of Yōtei transports us to Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) during the Edo period. The story begins sixteen years after the brutal attack on Atsu’s home, where she was left pinned to a burning ginkgo tree by the gang now known as The Yōtei Six — The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.

Armed with the same katana that nearly ended her life, Atsu’s journey isn’t just about revenge. As she travels across Ezo’s wild and breathtaking landscapes, she’ll encounter allies, uncover secrets, and forge a new path that transcends vengeance.

Though Ghost of Yōtei introduces gunplay and dual-wielding, the elegant sword combat fans loved in Tsushima makes a return, complete with stances and unlockable techniques. Players will also make use of stealth, bounty hunts, and sensei encounters to learn new skills — all while exploring a stunning open world built exclusively for PS5.

Sucker Punch has confirmed that Yōtei offers non-linear progression, letting players choose the order they hunt the Yōtei Six. You can set up camp anywhere, rest under the stars, and shape your own journey through a living world filled with danger and serenity.

The cinematic trailer, titled “The Onryō’s List”, introduces Atsu and the snow-covered, bloodstained landscapes of Ezo.
